Dip Metress is in his nineteenth season as Augusta University’s head coach. Coach Metress has won more than 500 games, and he has won greater than 73% of the games he has coached for Augusta. The Jaguars are ranked No. 2 in the nation after last season’s national runner up finish. Last year’s team was Coach Metress’s second to make it all the way to the national championship game. And four Coach Metress-led Augusta teams have made it all the way to the prestigious Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament.
A special guest this week is super sophomore Ja’Queze Kirby, who averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds during Augusta’s first two games before missing the most recent two due to injury. Ja’Queze started as a freshman last season and helped Augusta make a run all the way to the national championship game, earning NCAA Elite 8 All Tournament Team and Southeast Regional All Tournament Team honors along the way.
The Dip Metress Show is sponsored, filmed and edited by Get Up Productions, maker of the long running DropTheDis Podcast and provider of digital media services to businesses and individuals. You can find them at getupprouctions.com, on Instagram at @getup.productions and elsewhere online.
(The audio during the show’s introduction should be familiar to Augusta fans. Voice of the Jaguars Charles McNeil calls Miguel Arnold’s buzzer beating game winning three pointer against Queens in last season’s Southeast Region championship game that sent Augusta to the Elite Eight in Evansville, Indiana.)
Since the taping of this week’s show (Tuesday at 11:00 A.M.) Augusta (4-0) has added another victory, a 77-69 decision over Benedict in Columbia. Tyshaun Crawford scored 25 points and blocked 4 shots. Miguel Arnold scored 19 points, all in the second half, and added 9 boards. David Viti scored 13 points. And Darren Lucas-White dished 9 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds.
